Mengü Kazım Yeğin was born on January 1, 1935 in Istanbul. At the time, he was known as Mengü Yetkin. Yeğin was a cinematographer, the nephew of director Metin Erksan and the husband of film actress Gülen Kıpçak. In 1955, he was among the founders of the Cinema Workers and Technicians Union.
