Matthew was born in Coral Springs, FL. After being abandoned and set on a boat headed north on the Mississippi, the nearly 3-month-old infant only had the kindness of strangers to thank for his survival. This experience shaped his filmmaking. His surreal style and sense of humor are rich with middle-American imagery.
